In this exclusive interview with Robotics Business News, founder Mofeez Khalid discusses how X‑42 is transforming hospitality operations through a fully autonomous OS built on AI agents, real-time systems, and continuous learning—bringing science fiction closer to service reality.

In an exclusive interview with Robotics Business News, Mofeez Khalid discusses how X-42 is reimagining the future of hospitality with its autonomous operating system—built from the ground up with AI agents, real-time infrastructure, and embedded memory. Backed by obsessive engineering, systems thinking, and a vision straight out of science fiction, X-42 is turning hotels and cafés into sentient spaces.

What was the strategic vision behind developing autonomous AI systems for hospitality venues like hotels, cafés, and restaurants?

The strategic vision was quite simple actually. We wanted to launch customer facing intelligent market aggregator applications. But the tech stack of businesses was unable to support us. We were roughly 2 years ahead of everyone. That made us realize that there's a huge gap in the market. Products are just not evolving at the rate they should. The cost of coding and computation is decreasing exponentially whereas the quality of software in the Hospitality & Service Industry is just not improving at the same rate. It's quite exactly the opposite, in fact. Most importantly for us, these things will happen, it's inevitable. We want to accelerate that timeline and contribute to technological advancement.

Can you describe the core capabilities of your system—such as autonomous delivery, guest interaction, or backend management?

X-42 powers nearly the entire operational backend of Hospitality, autonomously. The only thing at this point required in operations is food preparation & delivery. Everything else can be handled by our system. Utilizing our system would decrease the cost of operations for businesses drastically. Everything else imaginable in a Service or Hospitality business can be done by the software.

How does X‑42.ai’s self‑aware system architecture enhance operational efficiency and service consistency in hospitality environments?

We're eliminating a lot of redundant interactions. To this day, Hotels have check-ins, and we haven't been able to move to digital keys. Whether it's identity confirmation or biometric verification, everything is being done online now. There's no requirement for you to stand in long queues and wait to be serviced.

Oracle and many other companies like Toast set the standard. They've done a great job so far. But they were built for a different era. Hotels are locked in with an ancient tech stack which is just not keeping up. It's the same for Cafes & Restaurants. There's a lot of new companies that are trying to innovate different areas of operations. But we don't need innovation in a specific area only.  Innovation should be done in actual operations of businesses and that is the most important thing.

What integration points do your solutions offer—such as POS, reservation systems, or property management platforms—to seamlessly fit into existing workflows?

We have a 360 Tech Suite. We can cover everything in a business. Our goal was not to create yet another system but to create the ultimate Manager/Employee which can run your operations for you.
Currently we have a Point-of-Sale System, Reservation Management System, Kitchen Display System & Hotel Management System. It all ties seamlessly together to run the entire business whether it's a restaurant, cafe, bar, event venue or a Hotel. Our system learns from everything! With usage, it gets better and better for our clients.

How does your model address common challenges in hospitality, such as labor shortages, hygiene concerns, or multilingual guest support?

With deploying our systems, human-capital requirements will drop significantly, and also the cost of operations will be reduced by a huge margin.

What feedback have you received from pilot venues about customer satisfaction, cost savings, or staff experience?

The feedback has been increasingly positive so far with a few valuable insights for us to learn from. But that's the good part about being a technology company, we can iterate over it fast!

How scalable are your systems for different venue sizes—from boutique cafés to large hotel chains—and what deployment models do you support (e.g., SaaS, robotics‑as‑a‑service)?

Our systems are fully adaptable and distributable as per our clients' needs. We can handle thousands of branches of a single business efficiently without any delay. And we support SaaS.

Looking ahead, how do you plan to evolve X‑42.ai’s product roadmap—through new services, AI agent enhancements, or broader ecosystem partnerships?

We want to keep doing what we're doing. By making businesses better and more efficient, we can reduce the cost of operations and make lots of things more affordable for people. AI is going to become the ultimate operator of business, that time isn't very far away. That's what we are focused on. We're also exploring strategic partnerships and even ambient robotics for autonomous delivery. Ultimately, we're designed to evolve into the cognitive layer that runs hospitality, not just assists it.
